After two big commitments yesterday, the early signing period started today and Kentucky made it official with several big time recruits.
According to 247Sports, Kentucky’s recruiting class is ranked 23rd in the country, ahead of schools like Mississippi State, Wisconsin, and TCU.
Kentucky’s 2020 class has 20 total signees, four four-stars and 16 three-stars.
Some notable names in this class are Beau Allen, Justin Rogers, John Young, and Joey Gatewood.
This years recruiting class has the chance to be Stoops’ best one yet. Rather large, but eight years into the Stoops campaign and there is no sign of burnout.
Here’s a cool quote from Vince Marrow:
“This is the state school. Nothing against that school down the road, but this is the true state school.”
Here are a few takeaways from the day (good and bad):
Kentucky’s class is still ninth in the SEC
When you initially read this, it does suck. But, when you do your own research, it really isn’t all that bad.
There are six schools in the top ten and eight total SEC schools in the top 20. It’s not that Kentucky isn’t recruiting great talent, it’s just that the SEC is loaded. But, hey, what’s new there?
Josaih Haynes
Haynes is a top 15 defensive tackle and is ranked as the 160th player in America by Rivals.
Haynes was once a Ole Miss commitment and just met Lane Kiffin this past weekend, but the Cats stole him from the Rebels and Auburn, Mississippi State, and Memphis.
Massive get for Stoops.
Walker Wood has entered the transfer portal
With Kentucky loaded at the QB position with Terry Wilson, Sawyer Smith, Beau Allen, and Joey Gatewood, it’s hard to see Wood getting playing time.
Stoops mentioned a possible transfer in his press-conference today, saying “I think for sure at least one has talked to me about going in the portal at this time. So we’ll see where that heads with those guys.”
Wood saw some playing time in two games this season.
Big time in-state recruiting
Something that has been an issue at times in the Stoops era was not one this year.
Kentucky has four commits from top 10 players in Kentucky. And they could still add a fifth with Vito Tisdale.
The most recent one being Octavious Oxendine from North Hardin. Oxendine is ranked as the 24th best defensive tackle in America, according to Rivals, and chose Kentucky over Louisville, Tennessee, Purdue, and North Carolina.
Another huge commitment coming?
Joel Williams, a four-star cornerback from Baton Rouge, announced today via Twitter that he will be announcing his college decision tomorrow at 2 p.m.
Williams, who was at one-time a Florida commit, will be deciding between Kentucky, Florida, LSU, Georgia, Alabama, and Auburn.
Hope I didn’t miss anything, and if I did I am sorry.
Reminder: The basketball Cats tip in almost four hours.
