Kentucky Recruiting Outside the Border

Published

on

Since Calipari arrived at Kentucky the Cats have finished eachyear with the #1 or #2 recruiting class in the country. Currently, Kentuckyonly has three commitments for next season: Top-10 recruits Tyrese Maxey andKahlil Whitney and four-star Kentucky native Dontaie Allen, who may redshirt dueto an ACL tear.

With Kentucky losing Reid Travis as a senior; most likely PJWashington and Keldon Johnson to the NBA draft; and potentially even Tyler Herroand Ashton Hagans, it is clear that there is still some work to be done on therecruiting trail to fill next year’s roster especially in the frontcourt.

Kentucky has lost out on a lot of their top tier targets in the 2019 class, including James Wiseman, Vernon Carey, and Anthony Edwards. However, the Cats are still in the mix for five-star recruits Matthew Hurt, Jaden McDaniels, and Keion Brooks. While not much has been recently reported about Hurt or McDaniels, recruiting insider Evan Daniels did log a prediction for Duke on Monday morning. McDaniels’ recruitment has been veru quiet as well but there is buzz that Kentucky is one of his top-2 choices. As for Brooks, he is nearing a decision and the Cats are favored in the 24/7 Sports Crystal Ball predictions.

Kentucky has also looked at reclassification options with five-starbigs Isaiah Todd and N’Faly Dante. Of the two, Kentucky believes Todd could joinand contribute next season, whereas they would prefer Dante for next year’sclass. According to 24/7 Sports, Kentucky is the favorite to land Todd and hisservices.

With options running thin Cal is looking not just outside ofthe box, but outside of the country. According to Ben Roberts of the LexingtonHerald-Leader, Kentucky is looking at 6-9 four-star forward Tristan Enaruna originallyfrom the Netherlands (currently plays at a prep school in Utah).

Enaruna now ranked as the no. 48 recruit in the 2019 class, recentlyimpressed many during “Basketball Without Borders” over NBA All-Star Weekend. Kentuckywasn’t the only to notice as Duke has reached out as well, along with those whohave previously offered Enaruna including Kansas, Miami, Creighton. Kansas and Creighton are considered the favorites at the moment but expect a lot to changeas Enaruna’s profile continues to rise.

Scouting Report: Standing 6’9 with a 6’11 wingspan, 200-pound frame, Enarunais explosive with a great physical profile. Enaruna is athletic with good shotmechanics and passing skills. Enaruna doesn’t blow you away with a certainskill but is pretty good all-around prospect that has all the tools to be agreat defensive under Calipari’s development.

No. 1 Ranked Recruit Takes Official Visit to Kentucky

The top-ranked recruit in the nation, Tyran Stokes, took his official visit to Kentucky following a prior delay.

Being from Louisville doesn’t necessarily make you a cardinal, and Mark Pope has set out to prove that in the biggest possible way.

The top-ranked overall recruit in next year’s class, Tyran Stokes, officially took a visit to Lexington on Sunday, June 8. This comes in lieu of many rumors that he’d canceled his visit altogether due to frustration with fans trying to dig for information online.

Last month in a cryptic post on X, Stokes said, “Why can’t y’all give a kid some privacy”. As curious as that was, especially given the proximity to his originally planned visit to Kentucky, it seems that the true issue had no bearing on his choice to hear Coach Pope’s plea.

And, as Kentucky fans now know, sometimes that’s all it takes to get a guy in blue and white.

The Louisville native, at 6’7, 230, has become widely renowned for his strong slashing ability as a multi-threat scorer on the wing. Stokes is the sort of player that, nobody who you already have on your team, you make room for him. He’s got an intangible build made for the big leagues, and he’s not even out of high school yet.

Stokes is the kind of guy that’d have NBA scouts sitting court side in Rupp Arena. While that level of national buzz isn’t always a good thing, it’s hard to underscore the possibility, and excitement, of the top recruit in the nation committing to the Cats come 2026.

In the very least, Kentucky is in the race, alongside Kansas and Louisville as heavy pursuers. It’s never too early to look ahead, and, as usual, Pope and staff are doing just that with the biggest names in the game.

Kentucky Earns Commitment From European Big Andrija Jelavic

ABA League j.t.d./Dragana Stjepanovic

Earlier today, Mark Pope and the Kentucky Wildcats received the commitment from Andrija Jelavic, a 6-foot-11 big from Croatia.

As first reported by ESPN’s Jonathan Givony, Jelavic is one of the most highly regarded European prospects that is taking his talent to the NCAA.

Soon to be 21 years old, Jelavic averaged 10.8 points per game on 60% shooting from the field to go along with 7.4 rebounds per game for Mega Superbet, the same club that NBA Champion and three-time MVP Nikola Jokic played for.

As a shock to most, who were expecting Pope’s next commit to be a guard of some sorts, international players can now sign lucrative NIL deals. Kentucky, along with several of the elite colleges, are now in the European market.

Jelavic, with shades of current European big men, can do just about everything on the court. He can shoot, dribble, pass, finish at the rim, etc. With a very relevant comparison, Jelavic plays almost perfectly in the replacement role of Andrew Carr.

His commitment now makes him the fifth member of Pope’s additions this offseason, joining Kam Williams, Jaland Lowe, Mouhamed Dioubate and Jayden Quaintance.

With a 7’2” wingspan, joining an already impressive Kentucky frontcourt, it’s safe to say for certain that this new team will not lack in that department.

Next year’s roster was loaded with talent already, but now with the addition of Jelavic, lots of questions are arising: Who will start? How many more players is Pope going to add? What will happen with the walk-ons?

There’s plenty to think about for Pope and his staff before the season starts, but like he said back when he introduced himself to Big Blue Nation, “We’re here to win banners.” He’s going to make the moves he thinks will do just that for the Wildcats.

Four-Star Guard Acaden Lewis Suddenly Decommits from Kentucky

Amidst a recent wave of positive recruiting news for Kentucky, the surprising decommitment of Acaden Lewis is an unfortunate wrench.

In a shocking, late at night turn of events, four-star freshman Acaden Lewis has decommitted from Kentucky.

Lewis, a 6’3” point guard out of Washington, D.C. first committed to the blue and white in November of last year, following an in-person visit with Mark Pope in his hometown.

Since then, he’s made multiple appearances in Rupp Arena, been featured in photo shoots with his fellow incoming recruits, and spoken on multiple occasions about his excitement to join the team for the 2025-26’ season.

To say this development is surprising would be a serious understatement.

Lewis released a statement following the announcement, “This was an incredibly difficult decision, but I have to do what’s best for my future,” he said. “Thank you to Coach Pope and the whole Kentucky staff for all they’ve done for me so far.”

While the loss of Lewis is certainly disappointing, there is still much to look forward to next season for Kentucky, who maintain one of the highest rated transfer classes in the nation – and it likely isn’t finished.

To that point, if any reason can be derived immediately for Lewis’ decommitment, it may be found in the same place that Mark Pope and staff will be going to look for answers: the transfer portal.
