The Wildcats moved to 7-1 on Saturday, Oct. 24, taking sole possession of the No. 1 spot in the conference. During this six-game win streak, Kentucky has constantly moved up the ranks in the AP Top 25 Poll, coming in this week as the No. 9 team in the nation.

Will Stein and his team have continued to beat the odds, receiving the team’s highest ranking since week eight of the 2022 season. This is the first time Kentucky has been ranked in the Top 10 in week nine since 1977.

It’s hard to fathom that the blue and white have made it this far, with the program transforming into a powerhouse rather quickly. After becoming the No. 15 ranked team with a win over Lane Kiffin and LSU at home, the Cats have steadily moved up the polls, jumping three spots in back-to-back weeks. In fact, every team but No. 1 Miami moved spots this week.

Kenny Minchey Sounds Off on Kentucky Constantly Being the Underdog, “Nobody respects us”

Published

Game in and game out, it seems like the entire nation is always overlooking the Wildcats. In all honesty, it’s because they always are. The underdog mantra has followed the blue and white all season, with the team soaking in every negative comment and turning them into checks in the win column. Nothing combats hate better than undeniable results.

How often have the Wildcats been the non-favorite though? How many times have they “just played a bad team?” When will the rest of the country learn? At this point, if you have an ounce of doubt in this Kentucky team, standing at 7-1 on the season, you might as well move to Louisville, KY and invest in some bright red clothing.

Will Stein, in year one of his tenure mind you, is entering the upcoming bye week on top of the SEC. Not tied with another team, not barely scrapping by, but ON TOP of the conference. Not a single member of the Big Blue Nation had any idea that this season would be so successful, so it’s understandable if the outsiders are just now hopping on the bandwagon.

Kentucky quarterback Kenny Minchey sounded off after his team handled the Vanderbilt Commodores at home, telling the media how it feels to be doubted over and over.

“Throughout the entire season, every week, and we know it’s true, but our coach tells us that nobody respects us, because they don’t,” Minchey said. “Every time we do something, people have something to say.”

Stein and Joe Sloan have voiced this to Minchey and the entire team like a motivational tick. Ignore the social media posts, focus on getting better and be the best version of yourself.

Does the acronym F.E.B.U. ring a bell? It stands for something unpleasant, but Minchey and the other Wildcats thrive off of this saying, like it’s some sort of lifestyle.

“I’ve mentioned F.E.B.U. a few times, *blank* everybody but us, and that’s something that we embody every single day,” Minchey continued. “That’s something we believe so we don’t necessarily look at the outside noise…all we care about is us.”

You heard the man. Screw the rest of the SEC. Screw Vegas and the odds they produce. Check the “all above” section on the sheet. It’s the Wildcats or nobody in that locker room.

What’s the significance of this? It’s a theme that Minchey, Stein, Sloan and the entire fanbase know will happen again. Another team will be the favorite, another negative comment will pop up, another “professional” College Gameday host will pick against them – that’s how it goes.

The Wildcats have a bye week coming up, and while they rest and fix their mistakes, people will talk, forgetting how successful this program has been. Minchey guaranteed that nobody respects Kentucky, so the only goal from this point on is to make them respect you.

No. 12 Kentucky Football Handles Vanderbilt, Improves to 7-1 on the Season

On Saturday, Oct. 24, the Big Blue Nation flooded into a packed-out Kroger Field, eager to watch their Wildcats take on a favorable opponent before the team’s one-week “vacation.”

Will Stein and his studs had first place in their hands. No. 5 Georgia, who was tied for first in the SEC with Kentucky, was on a bye week, meaning that with a win the blue and white would have sole ownership of the conference.

Nobody expected the Wildcats to be ranked within the top 15 at this point of the season – they certainly didn’t expect them to be bowl-eligible this quickly either, or you know, holding the best overall record in the best conference in college football. No biggie, right?

With more to prove to those who have doubted them every step along the way, No. 12 Kentucky Football (7-1) took care of business, taking down Vanderbilt (3-5) by a score of 34-17 and remaining undefeated at home.

The first quarter started off how any fan would not want it to go. Joe Sloan and Stein had nothing cooking on the offensive side of the ball, and Vanderbilt seemed to move the rock relatively well given the circumstances.

A huge return for 45 yards would set the visitors up for a field goal in the final minutes of the 15-minute installment, serving as the only points for any team through one.

Punter Wilson Berry would pin the Commodores on their own five-yard line before the second quarter began, ultimately resulting in a nine-minute touchdown drive by Vanderbilt.

With freshman quarterback Jared Curis dealing in enemy territory, it almost felt like if the Kentucky offense didn’t get any form of points on the next drive that it may get out of hand.

Luckily, releasing all of the nerves for those in attendance, the Wildcats finally punched one in before the half. Kenny Minchey would find wideout DJ Miller in the back of the endzone, capping off a quick, striking drive.

Kentucky’s defense would force a three-and-out on the next drive, giving the offense another chance to score before the break in action. Eventually making it deep into enemy territory, tight end Willie Rodriguez would take a direct snap, rumbling in for the lead-giving score!

Out of the half, the Sloan offense wouldn’t miss an ounce of momentum, going 75 yards in just eight plays, capped off by an unexpected touchdown by backup quarterback Brennen Ward.

Vanderbilt wouldn’t back down, capitalizing on an overturned call in the middle of the third quarter and scoring on a 34-yard touchdown pass from Curtis.

With the crowd back into the game and getting rowdy after the visitors somehow converted on the previous drive, they would boost their Cats to another explosive drive. Due to a no-call in the secondary, Kentucky settled for a field goal to put them up seven.

A forced fumble on the Commodores’ next drive would put the Wildcats in prime position to strike once again, but kicker Adam Zouagui would ultimately jog back out to the field and tack on another three points.

The game would essentially be over after the next possession, where safety Ty Bryant picked up a league-tying interception. Kentucky’s offense would sneak in via a Minchey sneak, giving the home team a 17-point lead.

With no chance of a comeback, the clock would slowly tick away, officially giving the Wildcats their seventh win of the 2026 season.

Up next, Kentucky has….nobody! The team will take a much-needed bye over the holiday weekend, looking to rest up and clean up any loose ends before taking on the rival Tennessee Volunteers in Knoxville on Nov. 7.

Kentucky and Tennessee Likely to Have Top-10 Matchup in Rocky Top

There is a real chance that the Kentucky Wildcats and the Tennessee Volunteers will meet in a top-10 matchup on Saturday, Nov. 7, which would be the first top-10 game between the two since November of 1951.

The Volunteers are coming off a huge win last weekend against the No. 6 Alabama Crimson Tide, moving them to No. 11 in this week’s AP Top 25 Poll.

They currently hold a 6-1 record, with their only loss coming against then-No. 1 Texas. The Vols take on South Carolina this Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET, with a high chance of jumping into the top 10 if they take care of business.

Is this a Tennessee based website? What about the Wildcats?

Well, the Will Stein era has started off to a near-perfect start, coming in with a 6-1 record after only losing to Alabama in the second game of the year. The Cats jumped into the top 15 after beating the No. 10 LSU Tigers in week six, then followed that up with a win in Norman against the Sooners, putting them at No. 12 in the recent polls.

The Wildcats square off against Vanderbilt this Saturday at Kroger Field at 7:30 p.m. ET, where they will look to go 7-1 for the first time since 2018.

IF both Kentucky and Tennessee win this weekend, it will set the stage for a likely top-10 matchup in Knoxville in just two weekends. Conveniently, the rivals have the same bye week in week nine, so there will plenty of time to prepare for each other.

This game could have major implications within the SEC standings, since the Wildcats are tied at the top of the conference with Georgia and the Volunteers follow right behind them in third place. The winner of this game would put each team in a great spot to play for the SEC Championship, let alone make a strong case for the College Football Playoff.

What Stein has done so far with the Cats has been uber impressive, but a top-10 win against Tennessee would put his team in the conversation for one of the best in the country.

Kickoff time from Neyland Stadium is yet to be announced, but it is anticipated to start in the evening and will likely air on ESPN.
