Kentucky Football’s Injury Report Features 10 Injured Wildcats Ahead of LSU Matchup
Published
3 minutes agoon

The Wildcats’ next matchup is one that the entire nation will be tuning in to. So much is on the line, not only in regards of national respect and conference prestige, but there’s talks of this being Kentucky’s ticket for the College Football Playoff.
We’re talking about the postseason in October? Let’s not get ahead of ourselves, but we all know what comes with No. 10 LSU. This is a program, now led by Lane Kiffin, who has proven over and over again that it will be present in any elite discussions moving forward.
For Will Stein and the Wildcats to pull this one off would be historic, instantly making it one of the all-time games at Kroger Field. Unfortunately, the blue and white are severely banged up heading into this cat fight with the Tigers.
The injury report is out for Kentucky-LSU, and it's not looking great for the Wildcats, especially on defense… pic.twitter.com/4yIM9CCWOZ— Tristan Pharis (@TristanUda) October 8, 2026
The following players are listed as OUT on Saturday, Oct. 10: ILB Antwan Smith, ILB Alex Afari Jr., DB Jaden Smith, ILB Tavion Wallace, DB Grant Grayton and OL Aba Selm. Along with that, RB Jordan Colbert, LS Cole Marszalek and DL Kalen Edwards are listed as QUESTIONABLE.
Standing as the only true positive here, WR DJ Miller has been upgraded to PROBABLE after missing last week’s game down in Columbia.
Stein hinted that the Wildcats would be extremely thin once again on the defensive side of the ball, a main reason that the team struggled so much on the road against the Gamecocks. Like any great team, this wasn’t going to be an excuse and they still fought for the win, but depth at such important positions is something you cannot go without in back-to-back games. “We’ve dealt with some injuries as of late that aren’t, hopefully, season-ending, but that will show up on the injury report,” Stein said at his Tuesday press conference. “It’s scary, there’s no doubt about it. We’re practicing other people, you know, guys that are down the line, because there’s really nobody left. We’ve got to find a way.”
Kentucky has beat the odds before this season. Who would’ve thought that No. 9 Texas A&M would be upset at Kyle Field by the Wildcats? How probable is a 17-point comeback on the road in the SEC nowadays?
Beating the No. 10 ranked LSU Tigers will be a challenge with the recent injuries to the team, but this setback isn’t something that Stein and his other studs can’t handle.

For the first time since 1946, Kentucky Football has started a season with a 4-1 record through five games under a first-year head coach. The most recent victory for the Cats came on the road against a hostile South Carolina crowd in dramatic fashion, winning on a two-point conversion in overtime.
There are many star-studded players on UK’s roster, but one has been standing out in particular: freshman wideout Kenny Darby. Against the Gamecocks, Darby posted a career-high 12 receptions for 96 yards and a touchdown. The Kentucky Darby. pic.twitter.com/ZJjXK19cbX— Kentucky Football (@UKFootball) October 4, 2026
The true freshman from Bossier City, Louisiana, has certainly made a name for himself during the beginning of the season. Through the first five games, Darby has tallied 25 catches for 322 yards and three touchdowns.
Darby’s performance this past weekend earned him a spot on On3‘s Charles Power True Freshman Standout list. Power praised Darby for his impact on Kentucky’s second-half comeback: “Darby helped spark a second-half comeback, finding the end zone early in the third quarter. The Louisiana native got open while working out of a bunch formation, easily tracking the football for the score.” @kennydarby3_ 👀 pic.twitter.com/F4kx95jddm— Kentucky Football (@UKFootball) October 5, 2026
Kentucky found themselves trailing by 17 points in the second quarter, but thanks to the help of Darby’s performance, they clawed their way back to notch the largest comeback road win in program history. Alongside Darby on the list was Xavier Griffin (Alabama), Jonaz Walton (Notre Dame), Jesse Legree (Oregon State) and Luke Wafle (USC).
No. 19 will look to have another standout game on Saturday, Oct. 10, when the Wildcats welcome the No. 10 ranked LSU Tigers. This primetime matchup, set to air on ESPN, is turning out to be one of the most anticipated home games in recent history.

On Monday, Oct. 5, freshman wide receiver Kenny Darby and six-foot-six, 325-lb senior Lance Heard both earned Southeastern Conference honors after their performances against South Carolina in week five.
Darby, with 12 receptions for 96 yards and a touchdown, earned Freshman of the Week honors and set a new Kentucky program record for the most receptions in a single game by a freshman wide receiver. Kenny Darby through 5 games as a TRUE FRESHMAN:

The true freshman also helped the Wildcats claw back and achieve the largest road-win comeback in school history.
Trailing 17-0 at halftime, Darby transformed Kentucky’s offense with 10 catches for 82 yards in the second half alone.
He opened the third quarter with a 17-yard touchdown, then a 22-yard reception in the fourth quarter to tie the game.
Darby’s ability to create explosive plays in high-pressure situations gave Will Stein and his team the push they needed to secure the win in overtime.
Additionally, Heard was awarded SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week for his blocking up front against the Gamecocks.
The top grader on the UK line (81%) allowed no sacks and had five knockdown blocks, helping Kentucky secure 394 total yards on offense. Our @PFN365 highest-graded LTs in Week 5:
Lance Heard, Kentucky: 89.0
Jacarrius Peak, South Carolina: 86.6
Niki Prongos, Stanford: 85.3
John Mills, Washington: 85.3
Jo Simmons, Auburn: 85.3
Jacob Booth, Central Michigan: 85.0
David Sanders Jr., Tennessee: 85.0

Kentucky’s fourth-and-one conversion to earn a first down came specifically through Heard at left tackle.
Allowing zero sacks, the senior anchored the Wildcats’ offense to open the gateway for the second-half comeback.
The Wildcats, now 4-1 overall, are making a statement in conference play, with Darby and Heard making game-changing plays against high-level defensive lines.
Stein’s team delivered a cohesive offense, and Heard’s penalty avoidance also gives fans hope as they push through the conference season.
Kentucky plays again at home against No. 10 LSU on Saturday, Oct.10, with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m. ET.

Kentucky vs. South Carolina: TV/Streaming Info, Keys to the Game, and Betting Odds/Predictions

October 3, 2026
We are now a third of the way into the first season of the Will Stein era. Entering October with a 3-1 record shows some early signs of progress, but Kentucky’s schedule is about to become considerably more difficult, starting on Saturday, as the Wildcats travel to Columbia to take on Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks. The first of a seven-game stretch against SEC opponents.
Coming off a 4-8 season a year ago, South Carolina entered 2026 with expectations of a bounce-back year, returning an SEC-best 68% of total production and 76% of offensive production. However, that has not been the reality thus far.
Sitting at 2-2 on the season, 0-2 in SEC play, the Gamecocks have lost 11 of their last 13 games to Power 4 opponents, including seven straight. Things hit a new low last Saturday in a 49-18 loss to Alabama. Top NFL prospect Dylan Stewart threw a punch and has been penalized and subsequently suspended for this weekend’s game.
It feels their fanbase is at a tipping point with head coach Shane Beamer due to lack of consistency and development. A tale similar to the end of the Mark Stoops era.
That said, Kentucky has lost four straight to South Carolina and are an underdog in this game. For all the optics, Will Stein and the Wildcats still have their own questions to answer, and they have an opportunity to make a statement this weekend and gain more momentum before a matchup with LSU on October 10th.
Let’s take a look at the matchup.
Run Defense
If there has been one consistent strength for South Carolina this season, it has been their run offense. Ranked top 15 in rushing offense efficiency, the Gamecocks prioritize the run game to set up the rest of their offense. Running back Matt Fuller, who is 20th nationally in rushing yards this season, leads the charge, but quarterback LaNorris Sellers is one of the better dual-threat options in the SEC.
Playing against another mobile quarterback and strong running back duo, Texas A&M’s Marcel Reed and Rueben Owens, the Wildcats were able to hold them to 154 yards combined, forcing Reed to make plays through the air.
The Wildcat defense has been a pleasant surprise this season and will need to play big on Saturday.
Third Down Success
Kentucky has scored 31 or more points in three of their first four games, with Will Stein becoming the first head coach in program history to accomplish that feat. However, the offense has struggled mightily to convert on third down.
Of 39 third-down attempts this season, the Wildcats have only converted on nine. 23 percent. That is dead last in the SEC, 9 percent less than the next closest team, Vanderbilt. It is worth noting that Kentucky has only had 39 third-down opportunities, compared to the league average of 52.86. However, the conversion percentage does not lie.
Winning on the road is tough, especially in the SEC, and Kentucky needs to sustain drives, take the crowd out of the game, and limit the time the dynamic South Carolina offense has on the field.
Win the Turnover Battle
Winning on the road in the SEC often starts with one simple principle: don’t beat yourself. In their one road game, Kentucky had some poor moments, including a missed field goal and a dropped touchdown pass, but they took care of the ball. This season, they have a +3 turnover margin. Meanwhile, South Carolina is -4 for the year.
LaNorris Sellers has a strong arm, but his accuracy is inconsistent, and he has struggled with ball security. Throwing four interceptions this year, which is top 30 nationally, Kentucky’ssecondary could play a big part. Defensive coordinator Jay Bateman will want him to feel the pressure. However, Kentucky QB Kenny Minchey must remain poised himself, 8 TDs to 1 INT, and continue to avoid mistakes.
If Kentucky can win the turnover battle, they’ll put themselves in a much better position to leave Columbia with a win.
Key Players
QB LaNorris Sellers, 6-3, 238 lbs
- 833 passing yards
- 244 rushing yards
- 6 TDs – 4 INTs
RB Matt Fuller, 5-11, 221 lbs
- 384 rushing yards
- 6.7 YPC
- 4 TDs

- Predictions: TeamRankings and DRatings.com both pick the Gamecocks to win by a field goal, 28-25. This is a series that South Carolina has dominated since COVID, but this is a Gamecock team that appears dysfunctional. For that reason, I am taking Kentucky 27-20.
