There is a real chance that the Kentucky Wildcats and the Tennessee Volunteers will meet in a top-10 matchup on Saturday, Nov. 7, which would be the first top-10 game between the two since November of 1951.
Just 20 days away from the Wildcats’ matchup with Tennessee in Knoxville…
The Volunteers are coming off a huge win last weekend against the No. 6 Alabama Crimson Tide, moving them to No. 11 in this week’s AP Top 25 Poll.
They currently hold a 6-1 record, with their only loss coming against then-No. 1 Texas. The Vols take on South Carolina this Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET, with a high chance of jumping into the top 10 if they take care of business.

Is this a Tennessee based website? What about the Wildcats?
Well, the Will Stein era has started off to a near-perfect start, coming in with a 6-1 record after only losing to Alabama in the second game of the year. The Cats jumped into the top 15 after beating the No. 10 LSU Tigers in week six, then followed that up with a win in Norman against the Sooners, putting them at No. 12 in the recent polls.
The Wildcats square off against Vanderbilt this Saturday at Kroger Field at 7:30 p.m. ET, where they will look to go 7-1 for the first time since 2018.
Wake up #BBN, it’s gameday! No. 12 @UKFootball hosts Vanderbilt tonight in the team’s final game before their bye week!

IF both Kentucky and Tennessee win this weekend, it will set the stage for a likely top-10 matchup in Knoxville in just two weekends. Conveniently, the rivals have the same bye week in week nine, so there will plenty of time to prepare for each other.

This game could have major implications within the SEC standings, since the Wildcats are tied at the top of the conference with Georgia and the Volunteers follow right behind them in third place. The winner of this game would put each team in a great spot to play for the SEC Championship, let alone make a strong case for the College Football Playoff.
What Stein has done so far with the Cats has been uber impressive, but a top-10 win against Tennessee would put his team in the conversation for one of the best in the country.
Kickoff time from Neyland Stadium is yet to be announced, but it is anticipated to start in the evening and will likely air on ESPN.
With seven games down and five remaining, the Kentucky Wildcats are sitting with an impressive 6-1 record. After defeating top teams, such as No. 9 Texas A&M, South Carolina, No. 10 LSU and Oklahoma, the Cats have established themselves as a top competitor.
They are now ranked No. 12 in the AP Top 25 Poll and are tied for first in the SEC rankings along with Georgia. Additionally, ESPN’s strength of record rankings placed Kentucky second in the nation.
BREAKING: After taking down Oklahoma on the road, Kentucky Football moves up to No. 12 in the AP Top 25 Poll!
With matchups against Vanderbilt, No. 11 Tennessee, No. 20 Florida, No. 22 Missouri and Louisville still on the schedule, Kentucky has an opportunity to turn an already successful season into something even bigger. However, with these challenging matchups ahead, maintaining that momentum will be easier said than done.

Here are my predications for the remainder of the Wildcats’ season.
Vanderbilt-Win
Kentucky’s matchup against Vanderbilt presents an opportunity for Will Stein’s team to pick up their seventh victory of the season. This is a game that the blue and white cannot afford to drop, with no room for the Wildcats to underestimate any SEC opponent.
If the Wildcats can establish an early lead and avoid costly turnovers, they should put themselves in prime position to come away with the win.

Currently sitting at -10.5 favorites at home, there should be no real threat given the team’s resume and how the Commodores have competed within the conference this season.
Tennessee-Loss
Sorry Big Blue Nation, but we all know that Tennessee could be one of Kentucky’s toughest remaining opponents. Actually, they ARE Kentucky’s toughest remaining opponent.
The Volunteers’ only blemish in their record is a close three-point home loss to No. 1 Texas earlier in the year and they haven’t left the win column since. This rivalry between these two programs adds another level of intensity to this game, and Kentucky will need to play one of its most competitive games of the season to come away with a dub.

While Stein and his team have given us countless examples of clutch play and that they can compete in difficult circumstances, but surviving in Neyland may be a tall task in year one.
Fortunately, this game will come after a much-needed bye week, and it’s known that with this win, the Wildcats’ odds to make the College Football Playoff skyrocket.
Florida-Win
Florida is another important SEC matchup that could have a major impact on Kentucky’s final record. The Gators have experienced an up and down season, and Stein will need to take advantage of the inconsistencies to take care of business at home.

If they can limit mistakes and maintain control of the game, this is a matchup the Wildcats have a realistic chance of winning.
There’s many intriguing storylines in this one, given the recent clash between the programs and the return of former Wildcat and coaching target Jon Sumrall.
Missouri-Loss
Missouri presents another challenging conference matchup as Kentucky approaches the end of its regular season. With both teams looking to improve their positioning in the conference, this game could come down to which team executes better in critical moments.

The Wildcats will need to avoid falling behind early and find ways to sustain offensive drives. The team’s record on the road has been unbelievable, but this is a game that can be marked as a shootout and one that anyone can win.
Louisville-Win
Kentucky will close outs its regular season against the rival Louisville Cardinals. Regardless of either team’s record entering the matchup, this one always carries additional significance.
Ending the regular season with a victory over Louisville would not only give Kentucky bragging rights, but also provide momentum heading into bowl season.

No words can describe this one. Just beat the Cardinals.
A 9-3 finish would be a significant accomplishment for Stein in year one and would reflect the progress this program has made so quickly. While the Wildcats have already secured bowl eligibility, reaching nine regular season wins would put this team in a strong position for a competitive bowl game.
Of course, the possibility of a 10-win season is not completely out of the question. If they can pull off an upset against Tennessee or Missouri, the Wildcats could exceed even more expectations and potentially strengthen their postseason opportunities.
Entering week eight, Kentucky Football is 6-1 for the first time in forever, leaving fans wondering if they will continue this already historic run this year.
NEW: Kentucky Football has a 39.5% chance to make the College Football Playoff, per ESPN’s FPI.
That is the 16th best odds of any team in the nation, and the 6th best in the SEC.

Last season, the Wildcats just finished 5-7 overall, which was only one more win than in their 2024 season, finishing 4-8 overall. Already, the tide for this program has changed.
In his first chapter as head coach, Will Stein has essentially flipped Kentucky’s record, bringing the fanbase win after win over conference opponents. The offense is fun and has its fair share of tricks, while defensively, Stein has implemented a very disruptive group with a fast tempo to force game-changing turnovers.

Stein and Jay Bateman changed the defensive scheme from Mark Stoop’s 3-4 alignment, which aimed to clog running lanes, to a 4-2-5 alignment, adding more flexibility in handling heavy passing attacks and modern spread concepts in the SEC.
The Wildcats multi-level pressure helps Kentucky disrupt the opposing team’s pocket and create a better third-down identity. This new blueprint secured Kentucky its sixth win of the season, allowing senior defensive back Jordan Castell to read John Mateer and take a 41-yard interception to the house.
Kentucky is averaging 34.7 points per game, with quarterback Kenny Minchey throwing for 1,552 yards through only seven games. His touchdown to turnover ratio is one of the best in nation, sitting at 13:1 before the team’s matchup with Vanderbilt.
Credit goes to Joe Sloan, whose play-calling ability has been on full display.

The Wildcats’ sudden success looks oddly similar to a school that took it all the way to the promised land last season: the Indiana Hoosiers.
Both Kentucky and Indiana have been defined as elite, blue-blood college basketball programs, but have never received much recognition nationally for football. The Hoosiers responded to their repetitive losses by changing the roster and increasing efficiency, similar to Stein’s changes this season.
In 2024, Indiana did not beat any ranked opponents, but defeated six top-10 teams last season. Similarly, in 2025, Kentucky went 0-5 against ranked teams, but have defeated two top-10 teams so far this season. There will likely be two more opportunities this year.
No.1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza and Minchey have similar traits, both players who rarely make mistakes and remain calm and cool in some of the biggest moments.

The Wildcats are already eligible to participate in a bowl game for the first time in three seasons, currently sitting at a 40% chance of making the College Football Playoff, so of course that means finishing business, just like Mendoza and the Hoosiers did.
With five games left in the regular season, can Stein help Kentucky become the SEC’s version of Indiana? Could this team turn early success into a monumental run?
This past Saturday, Will Stein and the Wildcats won their fourth SEC game on the year, pushing them to be tied for first in the conference rankings. This is the first time in a long while that Kentucky has been on top of the SEC, so there must be something special about Will Stein’s program this year.
The Will Stein postgame press conference + four player interviews are live on the KY Insider YouTube channel!
During his postgame press conference, Stein spoke on the resilience of this year’s team, saying that it isn’t just about “getting the right players” but it’s important to have players who “love playing for their university.”
He spoke highly of his players for being “bought” into the program, making it clear that because of the NIL money being offered to players that it was of upmost importance for this team to have players that play for each other, not the check.

“In the age of portal, rev share and NIL, a lot of guys aren’t typically bought in to the program they play for,” Stein said. “That’s something that we made sure that we got, we got guys in this program that love playing football for their team, for their university, for Kentucky.”
One reporter asked Stein if the “DNA” of the team was to “fight back and stay true to the next play,” something that Stein had said earlier in the year.
He answered with confidence, stating that “connection is their number one DNA trait.”
Stein has had a huge focus on the chemistry revolving around the football program, spending a lot of time talking about the relationship between the players and the BBN fanbase, and it seems to be working out just fine, especially given their 6-1 record.

The No. 12 ranked Wildcats return to Kroger Field on Saturday, Oct. 24 with a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff, set to face the unranked Vanderbilt Commodores. Can the Wildcats move to 7-1 on the season with yet another conference win?
