Craig Skinner Accomplishes 500 Wins With UK Volleyball – What’s Next?
Published
2 months agoon

Kentucky Volleyball head coach Craig Skinner has had a rather remarkable career thus far at the University of Kentucky. On Aug. 29, Skinner achieved his 500th win in his career with the Wildcats after a sweeping victory against South Florida.
5️⃣0️⃣0️⃣!!!!!
Congratulations on reaching an incredible milestone, @UKCoachSkinner. It’s more than a number — it’s a legacy💙#WeAreUK x #BBN pic.twitter.com/Zwcj9EjlYQ— Kentucky Volleyball (@KentuckyVB) August 29, 2026
Skinner’s 500th win came after his fourth match of his 22nd season as head coach. In his career, he has tallied a National Championship, SEC Tournament Championship and nine consecutive SEC regular season championships. Just recently, Skinner appeared in the National Championship in 2025, where the Wildcats fell to Texas A&M.
After falling short last year, the next accomplishment for Skinner is to win his second golden trophy. With many of last year’s key players returning, Skinner certainly has the skillset to win big. The Wildcats’ main returnee is Brooklyn DeLeye, a senior outside hitter and a 2025 All-American. Without last year’s star, Eva Hudson, this year’s offensive will rely of DeLeye’s powerful attacks.
She is not the only big name on this year’s roster, though. This roster includes 2025 Freshman of the Year Kassie O’Brien and returning role players Molly Tuozzo and Lizzie Carr, sister of former Kentucky Basketball player Andrew Carr.
As a whole, the 2026 Wildcats and Coach Skinner have the depth, experience, and drive to have another historical season, with a tough stretch approaching.
Over the next week, they will travel over 1,500 miles, going from Chicago, Illinois to back to Lexington, Kentucky, just to up and leave for the Bahamas a few days later.
Playing three ranked teams in this span, the results will be a key indicator for fans curious if Skinner can once again take his team to the promised land.

The University of Kentucky athletics department is thriving right now, and for the first time in a very long time, the Wildcats are one of two schools to have their volleyball, football, men’s and women’s basketball teams ranked in the AP Poll at the same time.
The only program starting with a K ranked in EVERYTHING. 🎨😇@KYinsider | #smsports pic.twitter.com/IWWbeCib30— (s)kelly 👻 (@itsakellyy) October 20, 2026
Kentucky Football has given fans plenty of reasons to be excited for the future, because after defeating Oklahoma by a score of 21-13, Will Stein’s team climbed to No. 12 in the rankings.
This win improved their record to 6-1 on the season with a 4-1 record in SEC play, now tied with the Georgia Bulldogs to be No. 1 in the conference. The ranking represents an important moment for the program, with Kentucky working to establish itself as a strong contender not only in the SEC, but in the entire sport of college football. With challenging opponents coming up, Stein and his studs have a chance to prove that they belong in the national conversation.
Kentucky Volleyball adds to the list of successful teams in Lexington, with this program having countlessly proved themselves throughout the years en route to a national championship and 15 total conference titles.
With the Cats being ranked No. 4 in the country, this teams gives fans another opportunity to support the blue and white beyond just football and basketball. Competing for national recognition reinforces a broader message: Kentucky athletics is about more than a single team or one turn of a season.
Kentucky Men’s Basketball remains as one of the most recognizable programs in college basketball, entering the 2026-27 season ranked No. 23 in preseason polls. Mark Pope and his team are looking to extend a tradition that has defined the program for generations, featuring eight national championships, 17 final four appearances and countless other tournament appearances. Will this be the year the Wildcats get banner No. 9?
Kentucky Women’s Basketball has been redefined in a few short years, with the Wildcats coming in ranked at No. 14 in the preseason ahead of the 2026-27 campaign. After reaching the Sweet 16 last season, Kenny Brooks is looking to build onto their recent success.
Both men’s and women’s basketball have showcased plenty of talent over the last two years, with both carrying high expectations within the Big Blue Nation.
Having four athletic programs receive national recognition all at the same time is a meaningful accomplishment, demonstrating how a school can thrive and build an athletic culture in more than just one sport, in a quick manner that is.
For Kentucky fans, that means more opportunities to cheer, more teams to follow and more reasons to take pride as a member of the BBN. Rankings can change weekly, but the larger story is the university’s ambition to compete at the highest level in multiple ways.
That is something worth celebrating.

Why Is Kentucky Men’s Golf Disappointed After a Fourth Place Finish?

Kentucky Men’s Golf hosted the team’s first home event of the season on Monday, Oct. 5: The Cullan Brown Collegiate Invitational. The Wildcats finished in fourth place at three-over par, marking the highest finish so far this season.
While a fourth place finish shows an improvement for Kentucky, the Wildcats had an opportunity to finish even higher after putting themselves in a strong position on day one. Playing on home course gave the Wildcats an opportunity to make a statement against strong competition. With Kentucky sitting just three strokes behind Tennessee after day one, the team was within reach of taking the lead.
However, the final round showed that Kentucky still has areas to improve in, especially when some of the top players on the team aren’t performing at their best. The Cats ultimately fell two spots on the leaderboard.
“It was a disappointing finish to the week,” head coach Gator Todd said. “I thought our guys really hung in there, and we had different guys step up yesterday…it’s hard to outrun where we are as a team when two of our top players struggle like they did today. We’re just not quite built for that, but I do think we are learning and getting better.”
The top performer for Kentucky was junior Gavin Clutts, who competed as an individual and finished tied for 12th. This was his fifth top-20 finish in his collegiate career.
Despite the disappointing finish, there are still positives for Kentucky to take away from the tournament. The Wildcats showed they have the ability to compete near the top of the leaderboard, but turning those opportunities into higher finishes will require more consistency.
Leaderboard:
T12: Gavin Clutts* (70-70-72)
T18: Jacob Lang (70-72-71)
T18: Cameron Phillips (68–72-73)
T42: Gabriel Hull (72–67-79)
T42: Bradford Lacefield* (70-75-73)
T45: Cole Stockard (71–71-77)
62: Luke Coyle* (76-71-75)
T65: Jacob Settles (77-76-71)

Next up, the Wildcats have a three-day invitational at the Williams Cup hosted by the University of North Carolina. It will take place from Sunday, Oct. 18 through Tuesday, Oct. 20.

October 13, 2026
On Monday, Oct. 12, Kentucky’s Clara Strack was named the SEC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and was selected as well to the All-SEC First Team by USA Today.
The senior center was the only player to earn multiple votes for the preseason defensive award and she was also just one of five players in the conference to be named to the All-SEC team. BREAKING: Kentucky’s Clara Strack has earned SEC preseason honors, selected to the All-SEC First Team and as the 2026 SEC Defensive Player of the Year!

Kentucky was also projected to finish fifth in the competitive conference by both USA Today and a panel of conference and national media on Monday, showing that with Strack, Kentucky is yet again expected to be a competitive program.
Entering her senior season, Strack will look to continue building on her success while taking on an important leadership role for the Wildcats. Her experience and defensive abilities will be crucial as the team looks to compete against some of the nation’s top programs.
Strack led the Cats in points, rebounds, blocks and steals last season and was second in the nation for blocks (91 total). Her ability to make an impact on both ends of the court has made her one of Kentucky’s most valuable players, but the defensive presence, particularly around the basket, has been a major part of the Wildcats’ success.
Last season, she became the first player in NCAA Division-I women’s basketball history to record 607 points, 365 rebounds, 91 blocks, 68 assists, 44 steals and 25 threes in one season.
After putting together a historic season, Strack enters her final year with high expectations. With preseason honors already under her belt, she will look to prove why she is considered one of the SEC’s top players and help lead Kentucky to another successful outing.
