Tonie Morgan Breaks Assist Record, No. 18 Kentucky Back in Win Column

The No. 18 Kentucky Wildcats (19-7, 6-6 SEC) put away Texas A&M (9-11, 2-9 SEC) in one of the most dominating conference wins UK has had this season, winning 75-55 on Thursday, Feb. 12.
The Wildcats, before the dominant win in Historic Memorial Coliseum, had dropped three straight losses in a row, two to top 10 opponents.
Tonie Morgan Makes History
The long and overdue victory wasn’t the only reason for celebration for blue and white fans, as in the first quarter of the game point guard Tonie Morgan dished away five assists, breaking the all-time Kentuckys women’s basketball single-season assist record.
The record now stands with Morgan at an impressive 218 assists.
The previous record was held for just one year by Georgia Amoore, who set the record in her sole season wearing Kentucky blue.
Morgan finished with 19 points and 8 assists, and one of the nation’s top assist per game leaders now has four games to add on to her new record.
A Cautious Future
With only four games left in the season, it’s of the utmost importance that the Wildcats play smart and grind for every win they can.
No. 14 Ole Miss, No. 5 Vanderbilt and No. 3 South Carolina, could all very well defeat Kentucky, making this final stretch telling of what the Wildcats’ postseason expectations will look like.
Arguably, the most important precaution for Kentucky is to make sure its players recover. Clara Strack, in particular, who in the win versus Texas A&M went down in the first quarter with a left knee injury, is someone who needs to be taken care of.
Strack came back just a few minutes after checking out and played the rest of the game, but you can never be too cautious.
Losing your star center due to fatigue or injury is something that can derail the postseason plans.
Up next for the Wildcats is a home game against No. 14 Ole Miss (20-5, 7-3 SEC) on Sunday, Feb. 15. Tip is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. ET inside Historic Memorial Coliseum and the game will also be streaming on SEC Network.
KY Insider will be there for in-game coverage.

Kentucky Softball kicked off the fall season at John Cropp Stadium on the afternoon of Sunday, Sept. 13, taking down the Louisville Cardinals in a 9-1 win. In the 10-inning exhibition match, the Wildcats had an impressive 11 hits with only one error, while the Cardinals had five hits and two errors.
The game began with the score locked at 0-0 for the first part of the game, until Kentucky’s bats came alive in the fourth inning.
The Wildcats put up some impressive numbers, both on offense and defense. On the defensive side, Kentucky locked down the Cardinals to four total 1-2-3 innings. Most plays were made in the field, with only six strikeouts from the blue and white pitchers.
One of the best highlights of the evening a two-run home run by junior infielder Allie Blum in the ninth inning, capping off a fun nine-run performance. The Wildcats also stole home twice.
Head coach Rachel Lawson used three pitchers against the Cardinals – RHP McKenzie Oslanzi pitched the first six innings, before being replaced by sophomore RHP Julia Bacoulis. Sophomore Carson Fall closed out the win.
The Wildcats return to action in John Cropp Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 20 against Eastern Kentucky, with first pitched schedule for 1:00 p.m. ET. This will also be a 10-inning game.

How Wrigley Field Contributed to the Growth of Women’s Sports
Published

On September 6, the Allstate Big Ten/ SEC Volleyball Challenge week began. With 34 programs and a total attendance of 43,067 fans, second only to Jackie Robinson’s 1947 appearance at Wrigley Field, the volleyball world exploded.
This was not just because the host facility is Wrigley Field; elite-level women’s volleyball has shown it can sell.
ESPN’s domestic and international media rights for the women’s volleyball NCAA tournament validated the commercial power of women’s sports.
Not to mention Nebraska’s 93,003 fans attending Memorial Stadium against Omaha in 2023, giving women’s volleyball a lot of attention.
But Wrigley’s impact goes far beyond competitive play; the tournament’s success creates opportunities for women athletes to secure deals.
The event demonstrated the commercial opportunities and fan engagement that could motivate sponsors and broadcasters to invest in women athletes.
Continuing to invent huge events like this for women’s sports could also affect the way colleges compensate their athletes; women’s sports have the opportunity to bring in revenue when participating in sponsored events like these, meaning they should receive earnings.
However, volleyball is not the only women’s sport growing exponentially. Women’s basketball has been on the rise for the past couple of years, with better showcasing of the WNBA.
This means that as several women’s sports gain massive influence and attendance, we might see more investment in women’s sports in the future, or even a different pool for shared revenue.
Due to high humidity and condensation, the tournament was delayed because it was too dangerous to play; however, fans still got to see the players dancing and singing together, even interacting with the huge audience.
The weather challenges drew significant backlash. However, seeing athletes’ authenticity and an experience they will never forget shows the community in women’s sports.
But how does this relate to Kentucky? Kentucky has incredibly strong women athletes, and events like these add real value.
Women’s sports have grown so much in talent and entertainment that Wrigley brought them in. Kentucky women’s sports may get more recognition, helping them generate revenue for the program.
The Wildcats also made history in women’s volleyball by winning the first volleyball match ever played at Wrigley Field.
Kentucky volleyball’s economic growth can come from the success and number of people who genuinely wanted to watch them play, and how successful a potential partnership could be on both sides.
Craig Skinner’s team made history for Kentucky, and might have just kickstarted a huge change in women’s athletics.
