Nick Mingione and the Bat Cats not only have an exciting transfer class coming in, but the veteran coach is beginning to bring in recruits for the 2028 season, starting with Jaxson White.

White is the No. 1 ranked player in Kentucky, playing out of Owensboro Catholic High School as a left-handed pitcher and an outfielder. He is a top 150 overall recruit in the 2028 class.

The dual-position prospect hit .364 during the 2025-26 season according to MaxPreps, bringing in 15 RBIs. He’s appeared in over a dozen games on the mound, holding his opponents to a .230 batting average and maintaining a solid ERA.

He took to social media on Monday, Aug. 17, sharing his feelings after the commitment.

“I am extremely blessed and excited to announce that I have committed to the University of Kentucky to continue my academic and baseball career! Playing college baseball has always been a goal of mine, but being a Wildcat and playing for my home state has been a childhood dream.”

It will be a long time before the future Wildcat sets foot on campus, but rest assured, this is a player you should keep your eyes on when the spring rolls around.

Kentucky Volleyball’s 30-Game Home Streak Shattered After Sweep By No. 19 Texas A&M

The Cats get another aggs-beating, literally.

On Sunday, Oct. 25, No. 4 Kentucky Volleyball (15-5, 7-3 SEC) hosted No. 19 Texas A&M (13-8, 6-3 SEC) in an ABC-hosted championship rematch. The Cats returned to Historic Memorial Coliseum searching for some positive momentum, especially after getting reverse swept at Tennessee in their last match.

Unfortunately, things did not go well for the blue and white. For the second straight face off, the Aggies would sweep Kentucky 3-0 and erase a dominant 30-game home winning streak.

All three sets dissolved into similar fashion just like it did in Kansas City last December. The Aggies would get an early lead thanks to dominant play from Championship MVP Kyndall Stowers. The crowd of Big Blue (and pink) would prevent Texas A&M from extending its leads, but the visitors kept finding openings to remain extremely comfortable in the scoring margins.

Throughout the entire match, Kentucky had not led by more than one point. By the time Texas A&M’s Eliza Sharp got a kill in the third set to make it 15-11, HMC had lost its voice and began to slowly trickle out in attendance.

It’s very much a strange feeling seeing Kentucky Volleyball fans not out of their seats and leaving their sections happy, but all streaks have to end at some point.

After the loss, head coach Craig Skinner, star libero Molly Touzzo and Notre Dame transfer Morgan Gaerte reflected on the loss in their postgame press conference.

“We didn’t take advantage,” Skinner said in his opening statement. “It’s frustrating, but can’t take away from the effort from Texas A&M.”

A stretch of losses is especially tough for the Touzzo because, miraculously, she’d never lost two SEC matches in a row during her four years at Lexington. She highlighted that she wants to place more emphasis on “giving us the fire and the confidence to keep going for it,” mentioning that “there are six of out us there for a reason.”

What’s Next?

The Wildcats are now on a two-game losing streak (unheard of in these parts). Luckily for the Cats, they’ll have three more consecutive home games to redeem themselves as they look to cement another No. 1 for both the SEC Tournament and the NCAA Tournament.

Kentucky will face Missouri (13-8, 6-3 SEC) at 7:00 p.m. ET on Halloween night, Alabama (9-10, 1-9 SEC) on Friday, Nov. 6 and finally Mississippi State (15-5, 5-4 SEC) on Sunday, Nov. 8.

Kentucky Only One of Two Schools to Be Ranked in MBB, WBB, Football and Volleyball

The University of Kentucky athletics department is thriving right now, and for the first time in a very long time, the Wildcats are one of two schools to have their volleyball, football, men’s and women’s basketball teams ranked in the AP Poll at the same time.

Kentucky Football has given fans plenty of reasons to be excited for the future, because after defeating Oklahoma by a score of 21-13, Will Stein’s team climbed to No. 12 in the rankings.

This win improved their record to 6-1 on the season with a 4-1 record in SEC play, now tied with the Georgia Bulldogs to be No. 1 in the conference. The ranking represents an important moment for the program, with Kentucky working to establish itself as a strong contender not only in the SEC, but in the entire sport of college football. With challenging opponents coming up, Stein and his studs have a chance to prove that they belong in the national conversation.

Kentucky Volleyball adds to the list of successful teams in Lexington, with this program having countlessly proved themselves throughout the years en route to a national championship and 15 total conference titles.

With the Cats being ranked No. 4 in the country, this teams gives fans another opportunity to support the blue and white beyond just football and basketball. Competing for national recognition reinforces a broader message: Kentucky athletics is about more than a single team or one turn of a season.

Kentucky Men’s Basketball remains as one of the most recognizable programs in college basketball, entering the 2026-27 season ranked No. 23 in preseason polls. Mark Pope and his team are looking to extend a tradition that has defined the program for generations, featuring eight national championships, 17 final four appearances and countless other tournament appearances. Will this be the year the Wildcats get banner No. 9?

Kentucky Women’s Basketball has been redefined in a few short years, with the Wildcats coming in ranked at No. 14 in the preseason ahead of the 2026-27 campaign. After reaching the Sweet 16 last season, Kenny Brooks is looking to build onto their recent success.

Both men’s and women’s basketball have showcased plenty of talent over the last two years, with both carrying high expectations within the Big Blue Nation.

Having four athletic programs receive national recognition all at the same time is a meaningful accomplishment, demonstrating how a school can thrive and build an athletic culture in more than just one sport, in a quick manner that is.

For Kentucky fans, that means more opportunities to cheer, more teams to follow and more reasons to take pride as a member of the BBN. Rankings can change weekly, but the larger story is the university’s ambition to compete at the highest level in multiple ways.

That is something worth celebrating.

Kentucky Volleyball’s Craig Skinner Agrees to Contract Extension

Kentucky Volleyball head coach Craig Skinner agreed to extend his contract through 2031 on Tuesday, Oct. 20, adding two years to his prior agreement.

“Craig has built something special here,” Athletic Director J Batt said. “We’re excited about what’s ahead for the program.”

Skinner has coached at the University of Kentucky for 22 seasons, securing a national championship and nine consecutive conference titles. He has also made it to 21 straight NCAA Tournament appearances and is the winningest head coach in program history.

Earlier this season, Skinner was recognized for his 500th career win after the Wildcats swept South Florida, a feat that very few have ever achieved.

In 2004, Skinner transformed this program single-handedly, turning Kentucky into a national contender, winning the first NCAA National Championship in conference history and earning the title of AVCA National Coach of the Year.

Before he arrived in Lexington, the Wildcats had not received a NCAA tournament bid in over a decade. Skinner’s elite program-building and seasons of loyalty transformed the blue and white into one of the most competitive programs in the mix.

“He has built a championship program, developed outstanding student-athletes, attracted record crowds and created an expectation to compete at the highest level year after year,” Batt continued with later on.

This season, Skinner is coaching yet another dominant team, sitting at 15-4 overall and 7-2 in the conference. All this and more is enough to be ranked No. 4 in the nation.

His squad will play next, in humble doings, against No. 19 Texas A&M, a team they lost to in the National Championship last season.

What a perfect opportunity to show why you deserve an extension.
